Some interesting observations on both benzos and antidepressants and tapering protocols.

This is amazing stuff.  Nothing better than to see a doctor break from the ranks and speak the truth.

I know, right?  And she is Ivy League educated, was a tertiary specialist in women's reproductive psychiatry, very well respected.  I'm so pleased by her speaking out, her blog and her book.  I'm reminded of Dr. Sara Gottfried, whom I also admire.

There are small signs of progress everywhere, for that I am profoundly grateful.

Such an interesting interview! Thanks again, SS! It's unbelievable to see all of this info come out. We all had to learn about it the hard way, of course, but it's good to see some MDs that are aware of the facts.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!   SO refreshing to see a psychiatrist with such integrity, and a mind of her own.  Love this woman.

In case anyone misses it (which I nearly did) the full audio interview can be found at the bottom of the article.  Awesome, awesome stuff!

Thanks for sharing, SS.

What is Kelly Brogan talking about in the last line? What medication spares you from late withdrawal?

Her quote from the article:

"You have those immediate withdrawal symptoms, and then about 2 months later, you can begin to have what has historically been categorized as a relapse. This is when your doctor will tell you, “You see, you should have never even tried to go off your medication. You need it for life. Now you know.” That’s what we’re taught to say. In fact, it’s actually a protracted withdrawal phenomenon. Again, this has now been documented that this can occur for unfortunately, I don’t want to scare anyone, it can occur for months and months and even years after the final dose. That being said, there is a medication that spares you from that arm of this problem."

I know I had late withdrawal at 1 1/2 months. I reinstated I was so sick, but if there was some innocuous med to stop it maybe I'd consider it.

Becky,

This was a transcription error, if you listen to the audio, you'll hear her actually say that there isn't a medication, not that there is.

There is a lot more in the audio so it is worth listening to, the abstract is just a small part of the interview.

As we all know firsthand, there are no shortcuts.  Vut I believe that her nutritonal aupport can really help.
