An excerpt from the article:

"If confirmed, and if deaths from medical errors were considered a disease, then medical errors would rank as the third leading cause of death in the U.S. after heart disease and cancer, based on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's list, the researchers say."

This issue was covered on our morning CBC Radio program by the "house doctor", Dr. Brian Goldman. It seems likely that we have similar problems on this side of the border. Dr. Goldman doesn't shy away from telling like it is. His CBC Radio program is called "White Coat, Black Art", so that in itself tells a lot.

Anyway, I think we all need to be vigilant, knowledgeable and proactive. I'd have to say that I'm pretty fearful of doctors after all of this, even though I know there are many good ones out there.
