getting over flu and still titrating!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well, there I was going along pretty well, when everyone in my office started passing the flu around.  I got it last Friday, and am just starting to feel a bit better, however I have kept titrating off valium ....am at 39ml today. It is getting to me a bit as I can't socialise, and am a bit like a caged tiger!!!  My hubby and son are both working and I guess I just feel sorry for myself, I find if I keep busy at work I can carry on pretty well and stop thinking about any w/d symptoms...at least I have got the flu out of the way!  Have been feeling quite positive lately but this has knocked me back a bit...however my determination to get off valium is as strong as ever!

Sorry to moan, but I am sure you all know how it feels!

Hi annie,

Glad to hear you're still titrating, I can tell you've made it your number one priority!  I know it's really hard to continue tapering when you're feeling rotten, but you did it.  Hopefully soon, you can get out and about again and be able to distract yourself.

I was trying to find your main thread, I noticed you have quite a few!  It would help us if you would post in one of your existing threads next time, it helps us keep things a little more organized.  Don't worry, we'll always see if you posted something new, we watch out for our members!  ;)

Thanks annie,

You can post anywhere you want to, I can move whatever thread you've already started to the General Withdrawal Support page and we can start there is you'd like.  Just let me know which one you'd like to make you main thread.

No worries, its all good!!  :smitten:

Sorry to hear about the flu but I'm glad your starting to feel better! Keeping busy definitely is helpful when tapering. If your not able to work why not try to play some games, clean (though I never can when I'm sick  :-[ ) , try reading etc.

Congrats on continuing your taper! It's hard enough when your not sick.

Thanks for support!  I am sitting in bed making beaded jewellery!  It is my hobby and have at last begun to be able to concentrate on it, and make some stuff.  Strangely would rather be in office with all my mates, but don't want to infect anyone!!!!

Here's to 38ml tomorrow!!

Hi Annie,

I make jewelery too. I do wire sculpting. I wrap stones in precious metal wire. It's very therapautic, isn't it?

Do you sell it too? I've been selling at craft shows and farmers markets for years. I used to do quite well, until the economy went south.

Sorry about the flu, but what a good way to look at it... That you've gotten it out of the way!  :)

hey Annie, thanks for "moaning".  It gives me permission to do it too!  And believe me, I will.   (look for it on another thread)

Glad to hear you are keeping to your taper schedule...wow, great job.

Hi Annie,

I've been trying my hand at cat toys.  I've got an abundance of catnip growing in my backyard so I'm trying to find my inner creativity!  It's not looking too good, can you imagine trying to work with catnip with two cats rolling, climbing and jumping all over the you and your product?  :D

I'm glad you're being considerate of your fellow workers, I just hate it when someone rolls into work oozing out of several orifices.

Hi Pamster, Eljay & Adelia

It would appear we are very talented between all of us!  I also do craft fairs, but keep them to a few a year as beading is my hobby, and find that if I am always getting things ready it becomes a chore and no longer a pleasure...I love to make things for my friends & family, if I can visualise the person it is good to make something for them.

Love the catnip toy idea!  I have 3 cats, they tend to go a bit crazy when around catnip, we laugh at their reaction to it!

Have read all your stories and am filled with admiration - nobody knows what the person in the street who passes by has been through.

My CBT therapist asked me what I had learnt from my experiences, and I was surprised to reel off a list of things that perhaps before I had never even considered, it has made me learn so much about myself & others.

Thanks for your continued support.

I seem to benefit the most from my most painful lessons.  I wish it didn't have to be this way, but it is; at least for me.  This particular lesson has been one of my greatest teachers.  I'm so grateful to be well again, I don't think I'll ever forget the pain.  I don't really want to because I'd hate to forget and fall back into it and have to live it again, I don't think I could.  The more I help others through this, the stronger I become in my own life.  See, so you being here is helping me.  Thanks Annie  :smitten:

You are so right Pamster, I really understand your sentiments about helping - and what it does for you.

I am not so young....but you are always learning, I have had to learn to ACCEPT my problems, therefore feeling that I have them, but they do not have ME.

Hi Annie,

hey, I'm not so young either!!!!  But I can still learn, and I know what you mean about our lessons from this experience.  I've learned things about myself I never knew existed.

Pam, you definitely have a way of stating the obvious, and yet it made me think at the same time.  That you "benefit the most from your painful lessons".  I like the way you said that.  I guess I do too (benefit from your lessons....hahha, just kidding).

Come to think of it, I doubt anyone else has benefited from my benzo experience.  Well, maybe a few friends of mine that really listened to my story without glazing over.  But then, they'll probably forget, just like I hopefully will.

Hey adelia, I wish you could learn from mine; I wish everyone and anyone could be spared this nightmare.  Oh well, it's too late for us.  But you know, maybe one of those friends who's eyes glazed over will remember your story and be able to tell someone who might be headed down this path and your journey will have saved someone else.  We can only hope...
