There's a line in the article that states, "When some of the patients tried to withdraw from the scheme, the doctor allegedly used their addiction to keep patients bound to it". The article mentions narcotic pain relievers (and not benzos), but some of the patients are diagnosed with Alzheimer's. And considering the link between Alzheimer's and benzos, the connection may be there, as invisible as most iatrogenic illnesses are.
