stress/sleep - need to end the day

Back again. I felt I was doing really well for last 2 months but during that time ive lost it and resorted to some heavy doses and mixes of nitrazepam and valium. It happened again last night, I end up in a mindset where I have no control and all my stresses build up to the point I feel I need to end the day then and there. I have been free from regularly benzo usage now, but im getting really worried and frustrated with myself for these occasional benzo splurges. When I am in this mindset I see no other way, I had a very bad experience from one such mix recently and need to find strength and self control when I am in this state of anxiety and inability to face the day anymore.

Is medication this only way to control my anxiety when im in this state? your feedback is much appreciated.

In my opinion and experience, NO WAY, not at all!  There are many non-pharmacological ways to control anxiety.

Have you ever read a book by Dr. Breggin entitled "Your Drug May Be Your Problem?"  There's an excellent chapter in it which talks about where you get your support when things get tough.  For many people, it's family, friends, faith, activities, creative expression, social causes, work, goals...  Hey, whatever works!

For me, regular hard exercise alters my brain chemistry, self confidence, and overall health so that I can face some bad days without reaching for a pill bottle.

Dr. Breggin's main point was that we all need to find that source of strength, somewhere other than in a prescription.  He goes so far as to say that we turn to drugs when we have given up on ourselves, others, and the almighty.  (And personally, I agree with that statement.)

Hey Anthony Blue,

I'm so sorry you had a setback, but that doesn't mean you havn't won the fight!

You didn't say how long you've been benzo free, or how often you've been splurging with the benzos.  The only thing cheating with the benzos do is make you feel worse in the long run, and confuse your body really well.  Your symptoms will not get better when you're body is in a state of confusion from varying medication doses.

There are quite a few ways without medicines to control anxiety or panic attacks.  I've posted a few threads for you to look at that have some very good suggestions.  Maybe something mentioned here will work for you!    :)

Best of luck to you!  Remember the only way to really lose is to give up fighting!
