DENTAL QUESTION/ ROOT CANAL IN WITHDRAWAL

[no...]

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had a Root canal done during WD and tapering? I may need to have one done via drilling in to a bridge, I can't put it off if it really needs to be done and won't. But I would like to hear from those who have gone through it and what their experience was.

Thanks Nova xxx :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hi Nova,

I had a root canal less than three weeks ago.

Nervous as heck about it but as always, it was fine.

If I were you, if ask for the dentist to not use Novocain . It has epinephrine / adrenaline in it and always makes my heart race.

You could ask for a non epi shot. I got carbocaine and had not problems with it whatsoever. It does wear off quicker but they can add some more during the treatment. You won't feel, that, since you're numb already.

I took home a script for antibiotics, but never used it,mbecause it was fine. She said it all looked clean and good so I didn't have to take it. It was on. A Friday so she wanted to make sure I had the script for the weekend, just in case.

I iced it for a bit when I came home and took some ibuprofen for 3 days , which works as an anti inflammatory agent.

Hope this is what you were looking for,

Good luck. You'll be home before you know it!

Nova

Root canals are actually not that bad. Please remember they can numb you WITHOUT epinephrine. That is the MOST important thing. I tell them I am allergic to epinephrine to make sure they don't use it.

My best to you dear.

Thank you both very much for your answers  its what I needs to hear  the last time I had a local anesthetic I fell asleep, that shows you how messed up our CNS is as before Benzos I needed an Elephants dose. And the other thing that's bothering me is my hearing is super sensitive and even my own voices rattles my brain, nerves and hurts my ears sometimes.  And any external noise?  :D :D :D

I am not looking forward to the drill noise :o  were as before I would have walked it, but its best to get the infection dealt with as our poor immune system's have taken a beating as well. I used to heal so fast it was like watching a time frame film, not now its really slow

I brought my own earplugs and wore my sunglasses. Helped a lot.

You could also bring your phone / tablet if you have one and headphones / buds and listen to your own music or a guided meditation or something. Whatever makes you feel better.

Good luck. It will be such a relief.

Moodle is right. Drill is loud with sound sensitivity,  so bring earplugs and/or music. It will be good. Good luck with it dear.

I had my one and only root canal over 2 years ago; definitely still in recovery. I asked for no epi - but the Doctor convinced me that his efforts are much easier, quicker and more accurate with epi due to the control of blood flow with it. I let him proceed.  Absolutely Zero problems! And I was so afraid of my heart bursting out of my skin from a surge, but I had none.

I completely agree with other advice above; I wore very dark glasses, had ear buds in with very loud music. Brought my own little throw to cover up with. These things are essential.  Also, I hope you will be seen by an endodontic specialist who is guided by microscopic technique. This will insure that you only have to have one visit to complete the procedure. You will likely need a crown (or a new crown) on the tooth, I hope that they told you this.

You will be fine; after all, a root canal is necessary when the tooth is either infected, decayed into the root or dying on its own. You don't want any of those situations to linger in your system!

Well what a freak out!!!  :o I had the root canal done and it was on a tooth a bridge was attached to which I ended up with when another putz of a dentist caused needless problems >:( I was told they were going to drill through the bridge.....NO THEY DID NOT!!!  :tickedoff:  Without warning they proceeded to hammer away at the bridge and the noise and impact was terrible, the only okay thing was they used ephedrine free anesthetic as I requested. I did not expect to go there and get hit with what felt and sounded like a hammer, and I took ear plugs but they were no use when the noise wasn't external :D

Anyway the anesthetic hasn't worn off yet as I haven't been home long but the dentist said its going to take time to settle down and to take painkillers which is not happening. I'm in pain most of the time and won't take FA as I don't want worse crap than the crap I have now.

At least I'm functional right now, but I've found that what I've mentally coped with okay doesn't apply to me CNS which goes in to overdrive, a small breeze across my ear's as I left the dentists sounded loud and  weird. I'm hoping that the aftermath isn't going to be  worse than I always expect, its  piss off when you deal with things nobly and your poor brain is in more shock than you realize until things brew up ::) Thanks for all your help everyone

hi nova, im glad the root canal went ok, gosh i used to have to see the dentist for serious dental work often during the days i drank alcohol often now , the last time i saw a dentist was just a very simple visit they just had to reglue a crown that fell off when i was eating starburst . before when i needed root canals or to drill 3-5 cavaties at a time i went to mexico 3 hours south. i always just close my eyes when the dentist works on me it wasnt that bad in mexico it was real clean its $175 - $200 there for a root canal $100 for the root canal and $75 for a gold or silver colored crown i have some in the back or $100 for a poscilian white crown , its also just $25 each filling or $25 for an extraction . the last time i went there for dental work was 2 years ago supringly the dentist down there is very very good with the least amount of pain and the clinic is just as nice as an american clinic and you just walk in as if your gettng a haircut not needing an appointment   !

Good thing you didn't know how it was going to go before you went!  ;)

I had two teeth fall out from clenching during w/d and early recovery.  I didn't need painkillers for those, but did take some with no problem for two weeks when I had foot surgery two years ago.
