New York State, 2003-2012: Poisoning deaths involving opioid analgesics

As per the title, this study looked at poisoning deaths in New York State over a number of years, and the numbers are on the rise. In addition, other drugs are often involved in such deaths.

 

Here's a key quote:

 

"The analysis found that, in 2012, 70.7% of deaths involving opioid analgesics also involved at least one other drug, most frequently a benzodiazepine."

Lapis, Thank you for sharing this paper, I hope that medical doctors and pharma people realize the damage are doing to human kind when prescribing benzos.

Yes, let's hope that the results of these studies are used to inform proper prescribing practices, as well as monitoring. There are so many studies that show that benzodiazepines are problematic for so many reasons. This one from New York State just goes to show how truly dangerous they can be. Sad news, indeed.
