Started Lorazepam 3 months ago for terrible insomnia which was sudden. (60 and no sleep issues prior) Taking 4 to 6 mg hour before bed. nothing else worked. did not know at the time all the problems with this drug. seeing a supposed excellent sleep specialist. Going back to him next month so will have taken the drug for 4 months. When he put me on it we agreed not long term. I hope to start weaning off to see if I can sleep without it. will bring up Ashton plan with him as I don't know what his plan is. Wondering what to expect being on a 6 gram dose for 4 months. Thanks in advance.

Hi magster  :) Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I am glad you found us. I think you have made a wise decision to taper lorazepam. The recommended reduction rate is 5 to 10 percent every two weeks.

You might like to check out The Ashton Manual it is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field.

Please feel free to post to any of the dedicated boards, we have a wonderful community of people here, who will give sound advice. Members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal and are more than willing to share their experiences.

Hello and I can surely relate,

I quit taking Lorazepam on 2/2/15. Its been 2 months today and I am finally getting better. I did it the wrong way however, I quit CT and never looked back, I know now that was NOT the way to do it, I went thru incredible suffering and intense WD! But when I made that decision, I did not know that was not gonna be good  :o I took 1-2 mg a day for sleep and anxiety, your dose is much higher, so yes, it would be good to follow the advice of your Dr and hopefully they will be very workable with the Ashton method. I have read every word of that manual to help at least to know what happened to me and what benzos do to our body.

I wish you much success to get to the other side and regain yourself back whole and healthy
