The article doesn't even mention drugs like Sarafem and Brisdelle. Sarafem is used for PMS but it's really re-branded Prozac and Brisdelle is used for menopause but it's really re-branded Paxil.

 

I started out my career as a mental patient as a teenager. There's an increasing movement to dampen out the emotions of teenagers by diagnosing everything from ADHD to depression to social anxiety (i.e. shyness) and prescribing psych drugs during the time when you're supposed to learn the necessary coping skills to deal with teenage angst. You need these skills.

 

But if mom is popping SSRI's and antipsychotics, she's much more likely to agree with medicating her children. And she's much less likely to model behavior and coping skills to help her children. They see her popping pills and it becomes a vicious cycle. It's frightening to think about.

 

We're becoming a very numb society.

 

Fact is, we're fighting the wrong drug war.
