I have a PARASITIC INFECTION, serious help is needed

I can't go into the details of the story right now, as I am rushing to the ER...but here is the short version:

After 5 months of feeling horribly sick which was mistaken for:

Lymes disease

Mono

Withdrawal

AIDS

I test that I personally ordered finally came back (stool diagnostic test)

I have a GIARDIA infection, and I've had it for 5-6 months. The doctor wants to give me antibiotics for 2 weeks, something called flagel. Like most of you I am hypersensitive to almost all medications & deathly afraid of taking antibiotics right now.

Can anyone please give me some insight as to how I can treat this without treatment giving me worse symptoms (anxiety, neurological problems, pain) or permenetly damaging me. I've been through so much, and I feel like I'm at a point where I just can't handle anymore

Can only speak for myself, but my daughter and I both contracted Giardia about 20 years ago when she was 6.  It's a common parasitic infection and can be contracted by drinking from streams or coming in contact with feces from infected people/animals.  We were both treated and did fine.  I would have been taking Temazepam at the time.  Neither of us had any reaction to the medication, though I don't remember if it was Flagyl or not.

Any drug can have side effects.  I'd ask the pharmacist for information...they're usually pretty on target.

I am currently expiering a very serious medical problem, which I am taking very seriously. That being said:

please refrain from posting common knowledge and useless facts. More importantly, do not tell me about your personal life (dog, car payments, wife, son, goldfish). Not only does this not help, but its clear that whoever makes these types of posts are doing so in order to make the situation at hand somehow about them. This not only clutters (hijacks) my thread, but it also disturbs me.

I realize a lot of you post just for the sake of posting, but this will not be the thrread for this type of forum behavior. Stay on topic, and keep commentary relevant, safe & informative.

Everyone follow my rules, and perhaps I can be treated successfully. Thank you

I'm not sure exactly what you want from posters here.  We are not doctors and may only relate our own experiences.

The replies you've received are on topic.  Frankly, I have better things to do than post for the sake of posting and you will be following the forum's rules on posting, no one will be following your rules.

If you have any questions about this, please open a Helpdesk ticket.

Your "expierence" has nothing to do with my topic, you don't even remember the name of the antibiotic you were taking & you were not in a state of withdrawal. I don't see the connection

Clearly what happened is this: you saw my thread title, and became overwhelmed with nostalgia. Look, I'm not saying that's wrong, I'm happy that you got to reminisce time spent with your daughter.

You decided to relive the expierence alittle via a post, and listen that's wonderful & a healthy approach...just not in my thread.

As for the forum rules, I do not see where I indicated I will not be following them. Perhaps you misunderstand me entirely, but I can take some time to explain everything.

Please drop the hostility, if you are offended, I apologize. There is no need for this type of behavior, and threatening me is frankly absurd. I am only a guy attempting to seek help regarding my situation, and I would like any information I receive to be structured & organized. This is the internet, things are already cluttered enough as it is. So please, refrain from getting emotional, you are above that.

Let's get back on topic...

Currently, I have scheduled a conference with my primary doctor & a top infectious disease specialist. Luckily money is not a problem, so I will be making sure I have the best treatment humanely possible. I am stationed in New York City, if anyone knows any intelligent specialists who have treated such conditions personally, id love to schedule an appointment. Second opinions are always important, even if it's regarding antibiotic treatment.

The connection is that you asked for experience and Challis gave you hers. She was simply responding to your question and there was no off topic discussion about time spent with her daughter. Come on now.

The rules of the forum include the fact that you can not make your own rules.  You can not dictate what people may or may not write on the thread.  This is a community of very sharing and giving people, it's natural for members to want to reach out to someone who is suffering.

You are the one who seemed hostile in your second post about this subject. No one was off topic and the replies you received were sensible and based on what people knew about this subject.  I do not understand why you expect people to post in a manner that you dictate.  Please understand that members are trying to help you, each in their own way.

Hi B0dybuilder.

Please don't let giardia worry you although it may be a bit of a shock to know you have had an infection for months.  None of the antibiotics used for giardia, including flagyl,  interact with benzodiazepines.  I'm sure you will be all right.

It says on this web page that "Although these symptoms are often unpleasant, giardiasis doesn't usually pose a serious threat to health and can be easily treated"

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Giardiasis/Pages/Introduction.aspx

  • 2 weeks later...

I also had Giardia and took Flagyl and then some other antibiotic. The problem is that the parasite is in your small intestine and blocks the benzo from being absorbed

so you go into w/d. I had it for a month before I knew that was the problem. By then I was spiraling out of control.

After treatment you have to have another test to make sure they are gone.

How did the consults with the specialists go? Did you take the Flagyl or some other treatment? Maybe you can let me know what infectious diseases specialist you went to. I'm seeking a second opinion on Lyme, etc.  diagnoses.

Thanks,

HT
