[sy...]
I went to GNC the other day to buy Calms forte but walked out with Good Days Positive Mood instead. Ingredients: L-Theanine, Magnolia Bark Extract, 5-HTP, Panax Ginseng and Rhodiola Rose. This supplement was developed by Lucinda Bassett (creator of the Attacking Anxiety and Depression Program). Has anyone tried this supplement or its components?
[...]
I have tried L-Theanine, 5-HTP, and Rhodiola Rose individually. I tried them during my worst times and would say that I "think" they helped.
[Pa...]
Magnolia Bark Extract, often called honokiol & magnolol, works on the GABA receptors in the brain. This would probably be something you'd want to avoid if tapering off benzos.
[sy...]
May I ask why?
[Pa...]
I believe they aggravate/prolong withdrawal symptoms since they work on the same receptor as benzos. Perhaps one of the older members here could confirm?
[Pe...]
It does interfere with the GABA receptors, as does Valerian, so it could aggravate your w/d symptoms, as could almost any supplement. However, the action on the receptor is different, so it's not going to slow down the healing process.
