Benzo Belly Duration

Recommended Posts

I'm at 28 months tomorrow. Been dealing the pregnancy belly pretty much all 28 of those months. Non stop constipation as well. Being vegan has been my saving grace for regular bowel movements. I laugh sometimes because as clean as I eat I'm sure if I were normal I'd probably be going to the bathroom 3-4 times a day easily. At any rate, I'm tired of looking in the mirror and looking like I am 6 months pregnant. What's the longest any one has experienced or seen some one continue to deal with this form of Benzo belly? I don't think I've seen anyone say they had it last longer then 12 months.

I think I've also been triggering myself lately. Despite the hell through all of this, I have kept a resolute faith about my healing. Recently I've come across people 6,8,9 years out saying that they still have issues and symptoms. with being at 28 months and some of my symptoms being as intense as they are still, I would be lying if I didn't acknowledge I feel some pessimism creeping in. I know I will heal and it's taking a lot longer then I would have liked, but in the midst of it, man... Just wanna feel normal, sleep well, think clearly, not grind my teeth, not feel like my spine is infused with super glue.

At 38 months benzo free I've also had benzo belly for around 28 months . A constant discomfort in lower abdomen, hip, back , I sought relief from a chiropractor. He said the same as you , ( it's like my spine has been welded together.

I wish there were other things we had in common besides this. In due time.

Aside from  Benzo Belly and your back issues, how are your other symptoms ?

Mentally I'm well. Thoughts of death have subsided and early morning fear and anxiety much better. I do have memory problems and brain fog. Often procrastinate due to fatigue.

It seems I came out of benzo withdrawal into a new world. A world I don't very much like. Often find it hard to enjoy pleasure. So I stay off the news sites and enjoy time with my granddaughters .

I feel you all on the benzo belly. Mine has just started to get a bit better as I near the end of my taper. Hope it keeps going in this direction.

There are a few things I take: Florastor (probiotic), Iberogast (herbal remedy that helps stimulate gastric emptying), Trikatu (ayurvedic herbal mix that speeds up metabolism). I refrain from gluten, dairy, processed sugar, and anything overly processed.  I take DAO tablets 3X/day for histamine blocking. I think we're all different but I keep trying different things!

Wildling, I love that quote!

Good luck everyone - may your bellies feel light and free once again very soon!

So this just started for me Wilding.

I recall earlier in the year it popping up and going.

Well now it’s staying and very painful!

Wicked acid reflux and the firm abdomen!

Have you been tested for SIBO, H pylori or SIFO??

I’ve had stomach and food issues since antibiotics which started all this for me!

Even if we have SIBO or anything, I’m not strong enough to go through the treatment.

I’m at a loss

I've almost been off benzos for three years, my lower belly bloating actually just started about six months ago, and it seems like everything I eat makes me puffy which increases my BP.

There are so many food now that's I cant eat, let me rephrase that, there are very little foods that I can eat without either swelling or bloating.

I've had distension for over a year. A friend asked me to test for SIBO but I don't think I'm ready for antibiotics. I wish it will go away naturally. Just tried aloe vera today.

I’m very scared that I could possibly have SIBO considering  most GP’s and GI’s don’t recognize SIBO as a condition. You would then have to locate a specialist and spend thousands of dollars. My mom isn’t going to do this for me and she doesn’t even believe me when I say I’m in benzo withdrawal. It’s a lose, lose situation. I hope it’s just benzo belly for me.

Ok I’ll give a disclaimer first that no one really knows what is the proper human diet.  There are tons of people who in their own are truly considered experts who have debunked each others perspective.  All of them claiming THEY are THE leading expert of all experts. With that said my advice is no different the only difference I can say is that I had severe gi issues and healed them after much trial and error

I do believe that in a normal healthy adult the most healthy diet should be predominantly plants but not void of animal meat. However when unhealthy that goes out the window.  It’s like saying jogging is good for you. Yes cardio has many many benefits but what happens if you severely sprain your knee ? Should you keep jogging or won’t that make the problem worse.  The same holds true with the intestines when healthy they need plants and fiber to food the gut microbiome however when damaged just like damaged knee they must rest.  Look at diets like crohns  during a flare what is cut down on fiber and gas producing PLANTS.  beans and lentils are extremely healthy for you just like jogging is but if your knee is injured you must wait to jog again and the same holds true for damaged gi

Celiac disease once again eliminating types of plants. Just like you can’t jog your way out of a broken leg simply because jogging is healthier than being sedentary you can’t eat certain things that otherwise would be healthy if your intestines are messed up. They need to rest and heal.    Jordan Peterson is a good example of someone I’d think most would consider fairly intelligent and also a celebrity who publicly went through benzo wd had horrible akasthasia and tons of wd symptoms.  He went carnivore as well as his daughter did and cleared up tons of issues.

While I do feel keto and carnivore is bad for your cardio vascular system maybe it’s just what the body needs temporarily to heal the intestines. Sitting on your butt watching tv is not considered healthy unless of course you have a broken leg and maybe carnivore or keto isn’t healthy either unless you have a messed up gi system

I have had this come and go. So far, it never stays. I found when my abdomen would get distended and firm, it was usually due to blocked intestinal gas. Getting constipated made it worse. I stick to a regimen of oatmeal for breakfast with a heaping teaspoon of psyllium fiber. I cook it with extra water, which the psyllium soaks up when I mix it in. I keep simethicone chewables around, take one daily after dinner. These help me a lot, I take more simethicone if I have distention with pain, as I figure it's gas stuck in there. That usually does the trick.

Benzo Belly has so many different symptoms. Cmagneto likely gets plenty of fiber, vegans eat a lot of plant fiber with all the vegetable foods such as pulses and legumes and leafy green vegetables, squashes, etc. So do I, as I eat whole grains and veggies. I normally eat a Mediterranean-type diet. Harder with the acid reflux and gassiness. But it seems I needed more fiber, hence the psyllium.

I just keep hoping it'll still work for me. If not, Oregonkatz and Dr Cristy Huff of BIC found Magnesium Citrate helps with the constipation.

The acid reflux is an ever present issue. I've had to experiment and adjust my diet to figure out the least offending, most soothing, foods. It's trial and error, and we all respond differently.

The ONLY thing that helped me this whole time was a round of Xifaxan/Neomycin. I didn't get any relief until the VEEERY end of my 2 weeks on it.

Then-- my stomach felt back to normal (it actually grumbled in the morning when I was hungry! I haven't felt that sensation since July of '21!)

BUT-- it didn't last. Three days later and the same old terrible benzo symptoms were back. So I'm working with a new GI now to try to figure that out. I've heard that Antibiotics can have an anti-inflammatory response-- so I'm almost wondering if it was that and not the antibacterial properties. But who knows!

I'm pregnant now-- so I can't take anything or do any testing. And let me tell you-- on the one hand...its a RELIEF to be pregnant...I don't have to suck in my belly anymore LOL. But on the other hand-- it has compounded the symptoms. Imagine being that bloated WITH a baby squishing your stomach. I'm due in 2 weeks...very anxious to see what the state of my stomach will be then.
