need advice

trying to stay at 1mg lorazepam to conbat cravings for 2 mg xanax.  (I was taking 3-3.5mgs of a generic alprazolam called tafil when my brand names ran out.  The Tafil just seemed much weaker, and had more of a sedating effect).  I realize I might have to go higher, maybe 1 mg twice a day.  anyway, Im just looking for advice as to the best approach.

You should take what you need to stabalize and then taper from there.  You can go back to 1mg twice a day, you may even need to go to 1.5 twice a day.  It's really important that you stabalize 2 weeks before starting a taper.

It is early days, but this is lot less than the minimum dose from your recent history. I would suggest, since your minimum dose per day was equivalent to 2mg Lorazepam, then this is more sensible starting point for finding a dose at which you can stabilise.
