  • João: Tom and you are doing a song now? What can you tell us, tell us about love.
  • Tom: Look Joãozinho ... I would not know! Without Vinicius to do the poetry ...
  • Vinicius: To realize this song, we gave it to João to sing!
  • João: Oh, but who am I? I'm just you. Better if the three of us sing!

This appears to be the first public performances of Garota de Ipanema (Girl from Ipanema),
lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes, music by Antonio Carlos Jobim (called Tom Jobim by everyone),
João Gilberto on guitar and singing lead, accompanied by Os Cariocas, Milton Banana on drums,
at a restaurant called Au Bon Gourmet in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, on August 2, 1962.
This is two years before the release of Getz/Gilberto, which introduced Bossa Nova,
The Girl from Ipanema, and João's wife Astrud Gilberto to the world.
