The Chest Pain Group

[...]

Recommended Posts

For anyone who experience chest pain in the past or dealing with it now.

Many of us get chest pain, go to the doctor and have heart tests and get told the heart is fine.

So the pain is caused by anxiety induced withdrawal.

Question:  Does it get better?  How long does it take?  What helped you?

We all need some hope.

Was woken up with terrible chest pain the other night. Though I might be having heart attack but just tried to relax as much as I could.

Think mine is referred from back.

Well I held for nearly 8 weeks.  Chest pain is nearly gone.  Not sure if it was due to the long hold or if due to trying Buspar for a few days.

I have noticed, I'm getting better when I think of my breath. I still don`t manage stress, the very least makes breathing worse. Then, I stop breathing, and get even more tense over the chest. Also gets worse, if I'm on the side. So, I try to massage carefully, and stretch my chest muscles. When I think of this, it feels a bit better.

That is interesting.  I think it helps to sleep with my head raised up.  I think Buspar also helped get rid of chest pain.  I only took Buspar until the chest and back pains were gone.

One thing that help me a lot was belly breathing and yoga. Lay on your bed. put a cushion or pillow under your legs below your knees and just lay on your back as you normally do. Start breathing rising your stomach/belly not your chest. Wait for three seconds and the exhale slowly. Do 0 to 10 and then if you don't feel too dizzy do another 10 to 0. That works for my very well. Also helps with the sleep. Try it !

I can't go on a beta blocker, my BP runs about 90/60 when I am relaxed. It would knock me out.

HOWEVER....efff, the chest pain is real.

I have had THREE EKG's done and all came back clear.

The pain is so real, and so terrifying.

I cant tell you the amount of times I have checked my own pulse.

What helps me is deep breathing. And the realization that the pain will subside within a couple hours max.

Remind yourself that this is normal withdrawal.

I monitor it because back when I had chest pain, it was a comfort to learn it was nothing serious, just benzo withdrawal.

Thank you for the reply Bob!  I have been having chest pain for about a year. It has gotten severe again lately.  Last night my chest all the way into my back was aching. I get sharp pains, dull pains, pains that travel, you name it. I’m not getting any associated tachycardia with it anymore as I don’t freak out as much about it. I’m just waiting for the heart attack that kills me so at least I won’t be suffering anymore. I’m have been to the ER and had EKG, blood enzyme, and other tests. Last time they said my EKG matched the one from a year ago so that “was good”.  I have seen a cardiologist and was given a Holter monitor to wear for 24 hours, a basic stress test and echocardiogram all coming back “normal” so what is going on? Can BWD and anxiety really be causing all this?  I have begun seeing a therapist to try and get to the bottom of it, but no relief as of yet. It just feels like it’s something terribly bad and wrong. I’m about at the end of my rope with this!

Any additional insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

You have good reason to hope for the best if you consider my case (and the many other similar ones like it).

In my case, I too was scare of the chest pains and went to ER and Doctor and Cardio Specialists and had all the tests and all was normal.

A very smart doctor figured it out for me.

He said continuous states of anxiety cause the chest muscles to be tight all the time.  After a while, the muscles get tired and you get pain.  The pain can be in many places.

He gave me Buspar to deal with the anxiety.  I took if for about a month and it worked.  Anxiety was down and chest pains gone.  I stopped the Buspar with no problems.  Over the next year or so, I need to do this treatment perhaps two more times but for shorter duration (like it resolved in a week).  Now I deal with my anxiety with trusting prayer and meditations and yoga and so on.

One thing about Buspar.  Many people say it is useless.  Well perhaps for most symptoms it is not helpful, but for me it worked to stop anxiety and relieve my chest pains.  Also about Buspar, I found it gave me a nice, dizzy feeling for about an hour and then for the rest of the day, I felt fine.  You just have to put up with a little strange feeling for about an hour.  Also, I took in the morning as it think it messed with sleep (maybe).

I hope this all helps.

You are not alone with chest pain and benzos.

Bob

Thank you for the reply Bob!  I have been offered Buspar before and declined, as I have all psych type meds. In hindsight, I’m not sure if this was the right choice but it was my choice. As far as feeling dizzy for a bit, I am dizzy everyday so I probably wouldn’t even notice. If this truly is just Anxiety, I need to address it because after being off for almost 18 months, I’m still suffering immensely with a myriad of SXS.

Thank you again for the reply...Best wishes!

Hi Hooper Really sorry to hear about your struggles. I have thought about you lots of times but had not seen a post from you since you jumped I think I have been doing light therapy with an Indigo machine. And while I am struggling with lots of symptoms especially nerve pain in feet, but my ability to adapt seems improved Could be mostly in my head but I really feel the relaxation effect is palpable during a session and nothing else seems to do that for me Best Wishes

Hopper14,

Here is more hope for you.

Like you, I took benzo for a very long time (ok, you were 20 years and I about 13 years).

I can tell you, I saw some of my most important improvements at 21 months off.

Thanks for the reassurance Bob!

Did you get the heart palpitations and flutters like I do?  Those are the most scary part!

Yes, I felt them in my chest but I was never at a doctor during the moment it was happening so I do not have any proof of what it was.

They stopped once I started feeling better.

That’s the same thing with me!  Never in front of the doctor. Ugh!

Thank you for all your replies Bob, I really appreciate it!

I have chest pain as well. I was going to spend all this money on some heart testing....but now I realize this is just all BB WD. UG.  I have put rice in a pillow case that I cut up to make smaller.  I put that in the microwave for 1 min. 20 seconds.  I place that on my chest and it helps.  Also, does anyone have burning when they breathe in?  It's like my airways are dried out causing pain when I breath. Its so annoying.

I had that burning feeling you are talking about accompanied by a dry cough.  Mine turned out to be my acid reflux being off the charts during acute BWD.
