Hi all,
I don't wish to come across as an ogre, but we have decided to restrict the use of images in signatures. It hardly counts as a problem at the moment, but recently some members have started to use images and this usually encourages others to follow suit. It often ends up in an 'arms race' where some members try to outdo each other - images end up increasing in size and flashiness. I did take soundings about this issue, and almost all of the team felt similarly to me. We have always encouraged members to use their signature lines to detail their withdrawal situation and/or withdrawal history. It is a definite aid to other members and Team members when giving feedback.
We are not disallowing textual links in signature lines. Genuine members (those who make real contributions to the forum) are welcome to add a discrete textual link or two to their favourite websites or own pet projects. We just wish for signature lines to operate as we intended.
To update your signature line: Profile >> Forum Profile Information (from the menu on the left) >> add your details to the Signature box >> scroll to the bottom of the page and click Change Profile.
If you wish to add some styling to your signature, and are unsure of how to add bulletin board tags to italicise, underline, etc., then create a bogus post (you don't need to post it), and write up your signature - use the preview function to see how your signature will appear.
Although you are restricted from adding images to your signature, reasonable use of the forum smilies is permitted.
We will add a new rule about this today.
Thanks.
Edit: just a few small typos.
