Just to clarify, the report says it was the most prescribed drug in the U.S. in 2009.  I wonder how that compares to other developed nations?  Disturbing is right.

Most docs I've seen say they hate xanax, they simply won't prescribe it, although these same doctors had no problem prescribing other benzos, mainly klonopin.  I suppose since xanax is short-acting, they see it as more addictive.  It's certainly the most abuse benzo.

Yes it's a good point. Are they being given a two-week supply? It is a little scary though becauase Xanax has just the greatest addiction potential of benzos.

I heard Xanax came out with a new variation of the drug called Xanax XR which you only take once a day. 

Yeah Xanax Xr. Why not just take Valiun then. Some of these XR drugs seem like big pharma marketing gimmicks.

When they're close to their patent expiration, they come up with a new money maker.
