Ashton Method

Recommended Posts

I want to learn to do the ashton method.

My doctor acts as if he's never heard of this before and doesn't support it.

We are doing dry cuts.

Started at 2mg and down to 1.5mg. He wanted me to go from 1.5mg to 1mg. I'm like no thanks. I have enough klonopin to do 1.25mg for 2 months and then dry cut to 1mg.

I'm experiencing fatigue and severe nausea after only a week cutting down.

I tired to read the ashton manual...but my brain is so fuzzy and I feel so tired that I can't focus or figure it out.

I want to try this...how do I start?

Ashton crossed all her patients over to Valium and then tapered then. If your doctor is not supportive of this you're probably going to have a hard time as you need someone to prescribe you Valium. Also you will need to do a gradual slow crossover which will require the prescription of two benzo's simultaneously which a lot of doctors are not keen to do.

We would normally not recommend a crossover if you're tolerating your current benzo. A lot of people report depression and fatigue on Valium and some cannot tolerate it all. If you remain within the 5-10% reduction rate theoretically you should be functional. What we've learned from our experience is a symptoms based taper is the most effective.

Unfortunately my doctor doesn't listen nor does he care.

He has mentioned Ativan..not Valium.

I know my body and the way he's tapering me isn't right.

I think I can get in with a new doctor for medication management. I pray this guy knows what he's doing.

Have you tried an addiction specialist?  This is NOT to say you are an addict of any kind!!  This is the only way I found the amazing pdoc I currently have who allows me to taper based on my symptoms and actually understands Benzos!  It took me many years to find a doctor who could help taper me.  They can get you on, but not off!  I drive 2.5 hours each way to see him every month and it's so worth it to get off of this evil drug.  He is an "addiction specialist" but also a regular psychiatrist who understands Benzos and the difficulty of getting off of them.  It's only by the Grace of God I found him!

I had no choice but to crossover to Valium as I had horrible interdose W/D with Xanax.  It was a much better choice for me, but everyone is so different, it's such an individual decision and one to make with your doctor.

Cooper.....I will try to google it and see if I can find an addiction specialist.  The dude I see now is awful.  I sent him an email yesterday stating that I"m not feeling well at all. I told him I think we are moving too fast and that I don't want to get off the Vyvanse at this time.  He never wrote me back. He does that. Doesn't respond.

Snelle...I agree. I'm playing phone tag with a place I want to go. I had my psych testing done a few weeks ago. I see a psychologist there.  They also do med management, therapy, etc.  My psychologist referred me to one of their pdoc and for therapy.
