Benzo Withdrawal "Overstated" Dr Gerada

[ch...]

Recommended Posts

Prescribed Addiction: John Waite investigates the "scandal" that has left up to 1.5 million people addicted to drugs prescribed to them by their GPs. Experts in the field tell us that addicts to benzodiazepine tranquillizers, the most popular of which are diazepam and temazepam, far outnumber those addicted to illegal drugs. There's evidence that some family doctors are ignoring guidleines by prescribing the drugs for much longer than is recommended, while successive Governments are accused of turning a blind eye to the problem and offering little by way of treatment to the victims who want to withdraw.

On the programme Dr Gerada, Chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners, made some very ignorant comments when presented with evidence of over-prescribing and withdrawal symptoms. When asked by John Waite about the severity of withdrawal symptoms Dr Gerada said that they were "overstated".

You rock chiggylit!!

I just wrote Anne Milton and if I get a response will send to John Perrot. They are organized. Check out the conflict of interest from Professor John Strang in the beginning of the discussion explaining Dr. Gerrard's comments. It's the 5th paragraph down in the coloured words "undeclared interest." Holy smokes. That's another thread for you right there. You should post it. I almost missed it.

Who is this Dr. Gerada that so many people seem to care what he says? It got a response from Heather Ashton, who rarely says anything anymore!

He's a she, and she is the "chair" of the Royal College of General Practioners in the UK. RCGP. That group is the reason the parliament sessions to change guidelines, get withdrawal clinics, which are  headed with ex-tranq victom John Perrot, Barry Haslam, and Parliament member on our side Jim Dobbin, and the likes are getting stonewalled.

So far they have the majority "say" in this.
