Shocking stats on benzos

This article today 26 July from the MailOnline tells a tragic tale all too familiar to us here of the benzos and other pills tossed out by doctors like candy and ensnaring countless millions in the addiction web. At least there is some publication of the problem but what is being done to help? The article tells how much help is available and no prize for guessing how much. These numbers are only the UK too - how many worldwide?

Unbelievable numbers! The person in the insert sounds just like us.  It's pretty wide spread, but I guess drs aren't reading these articles.

'More than 40 per cent of the practices have minimal or no support from addiction services in their area.'

'Withdrawal effects are severe. But unlike addictions to heroin and cocaine, there is almost no specialist help to quit.'

I find these statements to be true in my circumstance. I live in a mid-sized city with several large medical centers. I called all over the city looking for a benzodiazepine detox clinics. I was told by a number of health care professionals that there were none in the city, they said there were several methadone clinics and alcohol clinics, but none for benzodiazepines.

I had to be detoxed at the local Psychiatric Hospital.  Worst experience of my life.  But I wouldn't take it back for a second, I am sooo happy to be off this drug from hell!
