Wife and I went to interview  new Psch the other day.  He mentioned tapering by switching to Valium.  Now wife has latched on to it and is stressing a bit.

Is this where I ask Colin for a K to V cross over plan?  Does Colin to such a thing?

Thanks for any and all help!!

Hi,

I'm a little confused. Won't Truck's new doctor provide her with a substitution plan? Doesn't he follow the Ashton protocol?

hi everyone,

since being in the hospital and being labeled "psychosomatic" and "puposely disabling myself", i've searched for a new doc (but my insurance is really bad).

my primary doc has been the presciption person since october...and she is totally benzo illiterate...and downright dangerous.

i saw 3 new docs so far:

doc no. 1 was a psychiatrist that seemed to understand but was very expensive (out of network and wanted 100bucks for 3x/week)...that's when i knew he really didn't get the benzo situation; he wanted me to have DBT and talk therapy,...

doc no. 2 was the only doc in our insurance that actually called us back...he's a psychiatrist..  Had 2 visits; first visit promising..he said he could cross me over to valium (but his numbers were all wrong)...then second visit (after he talked to my primary) he turned on me...said i had post narcotic w/d syndrome (that's what's causing the sparks!)...wanted me put on mood stabalizers and neurontin....then visit number 3 ...well that was supposed to be this week...a follow up to see how he reacted to our giving him the Ashton Manual...

doc no. 3:  a benzo wise doc...that buddy Jestan goes to.  Went to see him yesterday.  He said my case is medically complex and it's not gonna be an easy ride to stabalize me.....no real plan...well there is a plan but it's fluid...and it's not easy...none of this ever is.  This doc is not a psychiatrist...he's internal medicine and totally nonbenzo and not into psychiatry...he's available by beeper 24/7...he's reasonably priced and he spent 1.5 hours with me yesterday....so off we go on a new adventure....there's nothing for me to post in my signature because things just are still in the works and it's kinda trial and error for a little while due to the instability of my situation.

thanks everyone for your interest in my docs, meds, cross over and titration.....as soon as i know what the settled down plan is, i'll let you know...but for now the doc says be prepared for a bit of a rough ride.....he's quite conservative and believes in taking things slowly...very slow taper.  He's an interesting guy and i'm amazed that i found him and i am thankful to God that there is actually an honest, hard working, non arrogant, trustworthy doc out there that actuallly takes his repsonsibility seriously.

take care,

love, truck

Hi Melissa,

Yes, I understand. I just figured the new 'Ashton' doc who is crossing her to valium would be the right person to give her a cross over plan, so I was curious why they were asking Colin for a plan.

Anyway, good luck Truck.  :)

hi eljay,

hubby asked colin for a plan because doc#2 didn't know about ashton and we were gonna see if we could dig him out of his ignorant cave....anyhow, we found an ashton doc right after we gave doc #2 the ashton info...and we aren't going back to doc #2 because quite honestly, he's kinda got his head up his own behind....hehehe...too bad really because we thought we could get him on the right path.  However, i feel much better being with a doc that has much more  experience, spends 3x the amount of time with his patients and is available 24/7 via phone/page for help.

i hope this all makes sense.

thanks,

truck

Hi Truck and Mr. Truck.

Some people who crossed over from K-pin to Valium wish that they had simply tapered the K-pin all the way down.

Others swear that crossing over to Valium is the only way they got off benzos.

My Dr, (Number 5), Insisted on Valium. He is a Withdrawl Specialist.

He claims that Valium binds less tightly to the GABA receptors than Klonopin, and will facilitate an easier taper overall and less of a chance of wd syndrome or protracted wd, considering my extreme tolerece issues.

He said that he would never put me back on K-pin.

Just be careful if you do decide to cross over and do it slowly. My Dr doenst follow Ashtons guidelines and he crossed me all over at once.

40mgs of Valium had me completely wiped out. I had to adjust back to 20mgs V and 2mg A for a week,then 30mgs V and 1mg A for a week, then to 40mgs V.

Now I have to stabilize for a month and then start 10% cuts every 3 or 4 weeks.
